Creating Picking Waves Automatically

Procedure

  1. In the Shipping Screen, choose Picking ® Picking waves.
  2. The system displays the screen Picking with Picking Waves.

  3. Choose Picking wave ® Create automatically.
  4. The system displays the screen Picking Waves According to Time Criteria.

  5. In the section Deliveries from, field Warehouse number, enter the warehouse number for which you wish to create picking waves.
  6. In the section Time based, enter the following data:

All deliveries whose comparison time matches this date are included in the wave creation for this day.

Also enter a time slot if you only wish to create one picking wave for this time slot.

Deliveries that have not yet been assigned to a picking wave can be included in the wave creation process. Enter here the data as of which such deliveries are to be taken into consideration.

  1. Select a processing type. In the section Processing type, enter one of the possible processing types:

You select this processing type if you want to view the waves on the screen and possible want to process them before saving or if you simply want to look at the simulation of waves.

You select this processing type if you do not wish to look at the waves on the screen and process them, but instead wish to have them saved immediately (background processing).

The system saves the waves without displaying them first on the screen (background processing).

  1. Choose Program ® Execute.
  2. Depending on the selected processing type, you receive the following results:

The system displays one or several waves on the screen. You can process these waves before saving them (see processing of picking waves). If you only wish to execute the simulation process, then choose Cancel.

Information structure S159 is the basis for creating picking waves is. In Customizing you control how the picking waves are updated (see IMG Control Workload Update). If you have problems in creating picking waves automatically, you should check the respective Customizing settings.

The system displays the number of picking waves that have been saved to the database. The numbers of these picking waves are not displayed. However, you can determine the numbers as listed under item 3 in Displaying Picking Waves.

  1. The system displays one or several waves as a proposal on the screen. Here the following selections are standard:

By expanding the wave, you see the respective deliveries:
All the deliveries of these waves (with the exception of surplus deliveries) show a green lamp. They are also marked with a checkmark for saving.

By expanding the wave, you see the respective deliveries:

Surplus deliveries are always assigned to the 1st wave. This wave is already displayed on the screen in expanded form. Surplus deliveries are marked with a STOP signal.

  1. To be able to react to capacity bottlenecks, you can process the displayed waves as follows:

Remove the selection checkmark.

Expand the wave and remove the selection checkmark of the delivery. (The system only selects marked deliveries of a wave selected for saving.)

To shift deliveries from a source wave to a target wave, proceed as follows:

    1. Click on the delivery numbers of the deliveries to be shifted in the source wave. The deliveries are then marked yellow.
    2. Click on the target wave. The deliveries are then moved from the source wave into the target wave and are marked there with a plus sign.
  1. Save the picking waves.
  2. The numbers of the created picking waves are displayed on the screen.

The system creates a log for the activities executed.
