Budget Updates 

Use

You can use this function to carry out budget updates during a financial year (i.e. increase or decrease the budgets of budget structure elements defined in the overall budget).

An supplementary budget for the budget structure element Salaries for Civil Servants means that the original budget for this is increased by USD 100,000. By performing a budget update, you can assign this additional amount (supplement) to the budget of the budget structure element in question.

You can define customer-specific budget updates in Customizing (i.e. you can specify whether they supplement or decrease the budget, you can store a description for the update, and so on).

Budget updates are different to the changes made to a budget as part of the Assignment of Budget process because the overall budget now has the budget status Released.

Prerequisites

You must have made the appropriate settings in the following Customizing steps: Overall Budget ® Budget Structure Element Types ® Define Budget Updates and Define Budget Updates Allowed for Specific BS Element Types.

Features

A distinction is drawn between supplements (increases) and returns (decreases).

You specify a supplement or return either as a monetary amount or in FTEs (depending on the budget structure element type) for a specific validity period.

The system calculates the total amount of the budget update from the number of FTEs or amount specified and the validity period. When you create a return, the active availability check is run to see whether the budget is actually available.
