The GR/IR clearing account is cleared at the time of invoice receipt. The variance between the purchase order and invoice is posted as follows:

• If the invoice value is greater than the value of goods ordered, the variance is posted to an expense account.
• If the invoice value is less than the value of goods ordered, the variance is posted to an income account.

The value of the material and the price therefore do not change when an invoice is received.
