SAP offers you this new database administration tool for
R/3 databases running under Informix, versions 6.0 or 7.1. The following features are offered:
- Menu driven user interface
- Runs with both Informix 6.0 and 7.1
- Analysis facilities to examine the state of the database
- Action facilities to carry out alterations to the database
- Available in English and German
- Offers help with wildcard entries and context-sensitive supporting
information.
It is possible using SAPDBA to carry out the following:
- Change the server mode
- Extend the database (add chunks to dbspaces or create new dbspaces)
- Change the storage options on tables and indexes
- Update statistics for OnLine optimizer
- Create a recovery report to assist restoring the database in the
event of failure (if you use ON-Archive)
- Initiate emergency backup of the database if the logical logs have
filled right up (if you use ON-Archive)
- For many of the above, it is possible to execute reports to
examine the state of the database before you carry out a change.
You can quickly get reports on:
1. Dbspaces, chunks and devices, showing how full the storage is, how it is laid out, where the gaps are and so on.
2. Tables and indexes showing a variety of information (table
rankings by fill level, size, number of extents, number of
extents still available; index rankings by fill level, size,
number of leaves, number of levels; tables with a critical
next extent size; detailed individual table and index
information). These reports can be tailored by the relevant
selection criteria and where appropriate restricted to
particular dbspaces.
3. Tables in need of a statistics update (either those which
have new indexes without any statistics or those where the
statistics deviate by a certain level from the current
value).
Operating system:
SINIX (Siemens-Nixdorf): only starting with Version 5.4.2
Otherwise no restrictions.
Informix OnLine Versions 6.0 or 7.1
Runs with all R/3 releases.
