Creating an Activity Group

An activity group is a collection of related R/3 transactions, authorizations and other objects. You can assign an activity group to as many users as you like.

To create an activity group, choose Tools ® Administration, System administration ® User maintenance ® Activity groups, or use Transaction PFCG.

Proceed as follows:

  1. Specify a name for the activity group. Choose a name that does not begin with a namespace prefix or the prefix SAP.
  2. Now enter a text to describe the functions of the activity group.
  3. You may use an already existing activity group as a reference. In this case, in the field Derive from activity group enter the name of the activity group from which all transactions should be transferred. You cannot add your own transactions. Authorizations are not inherited but you can transfer them as copies. To display an overview of the inheritance of activity groups, choose Activity group ® Where-used list.

  4. Assign transactions to the activity group on the tab Menu. Do this by entering the transaction code directly. Alternatively, branch to the hierarchy tree of the company menu by choosing Menu selection, and automatically transfer the transaction codes from there by selecting menus.
  5. When you select transactions from the company menu, you can transfer the entries by flagging the checkbox or by double-clicking an entry. The color legend and Information provide you with notes about using colors and stoplights and about the outline of the hierarchy tree.

The transactions that are assigned in the tab Menu are used in the Session Manager to create the user menu. This user menu is displayed for all users who are assigned to this activity group. In addition, the transactions to create authorizations are included. You can edit these using the tab Authorizations. This allows you to create an authorization profile suitable for the transactions.

The status display on the index of tab Menu is red if no menu nodes have been assigned. The status is green if at least one menu node has been assigned.

To assign Implementation Guide (IMG) projects or views of projects to an activity group, choose Utilities ® Customizing auth. The system displays a dialog box with which you can assign the projects. Choose Information to display more information on using this option.

  6. Save these entries. You have now created an activity group.

The next section describes how to display and edit predefined authorizations.
