P57 - EH&S Product Safety

This scenario describes how chemical, physical, safety and other data for the substances that are used and processed in the EH&S specification database can be maintained. The amount of data that you have to maintain can be greatly limited by using the reference functionality: Data that you maintain for one specification can be passed on to all other specifications that have the same properties.

The data in your specification database can be used to create Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs), which you then manage in the EH&S report information system. The product safety component supports you in adhering to a specified sequence of steps when creating and releasing new MSDSs. Historical versions of MSDSs can be tracked as well. Material Safety Data Sheets are also provided from suppliers when chemicals or hazardous substances are procured. They can be integrated in the EH&S database to have the related safety information at hand at all times and for all employees that need to access this information.

Process Flow

The following functions are provided to support the EH&S Product Safety scenario:

  • Maintaining substance data
  • Creating and releasing safety data sheets
  • Printing material safety data sheets
  • Shipping of MSDS to customer
